Visiting Chuckie Hatcher in Sylmar, CA

LARC members traveled up to Sylmar, CA to visit Chuck Hatcher to see his birds fly.  A large envoy had traveled to Chuckie’s a month earlier but as rollers will often do they decided not to roll that day. There was, however, even on a slow day, glimpses of quality, speed and depth.

The  second visit was a totally different story! With wind whipping around in the hills and canyon LARC members just knew that flying birds was not an option–Chuckie had something else to say about that.  He looked up and said, “the wind picked up just as ya”ll pulled up but the only time I stop flying is when the electric lines whistle.”

We said, “Chuckie you don’t have to fly em’, we wouldn’t!” But in his smooth, old school, way he replied, “Shiiitttttt, you can’t baby these m%@*a f*&^s,” and the fly was on. ” The birds fought that wind and showed what they were made of — quality, speed, depth and 35 years of being kept pure.

Cornell “BONES” Norwood this ones for you.

Just watched your video, it’s nice to see there are still some real people out there, I raised tipplers with my father in the bronx nyc, until we moved to Pennsylvania, and started flying racing homers, I recently became a father and purchased a home, I just caught the fever for the rollers, man they are something else. I cant believe I’ve waisted my time and energy with these other breeds, oh well you live in learn and I’m sure I can utilize the knowledge of breeding and maintenance with the birds. I just wanna fly some dynamite birds and enjoy the pigeons with my family and friends, that’s all. If you have any tips for a starting young roller man as myself I appreciate it. God bless and keep flying you have been a real inspiration and I can’t wait to get my kit together.
